The wait is almost over; Netflix has revealed that the third season of The Witcher will debut on June 29, meaning we’re just months away from Henry Cavill’s return (and finale) as Geralt of Rivia. While we wait, here’s what we already know about the next season of the fantasy hit.

The full trailer for “The Witcher” season 3 was released on Thursday, giving viewers a taste of what to expect in the next installment of the hit Netflix series.
Sharpened blades cut through the air, and some people’s bodies, in the official season 3 trailer for The Witcher. The series will return to Netflix on June 29 starring Henry Cavill — and his character Geralt of Rivia is leaving behind a blood-soaked legacy.
In the new trailer, Geralt continues his mission to protect Ciri from monsters, monarchs, mages, and anyone else who wants to capture her. We also see Geralt reunited with Yennefer, who travels with Ciri to Aretuza, the magical academy for young women. Last season, Yen sacrificed herself to save Ciri from a powerful demon named Voleth Meir.
The Witcher Season 3 Release date
The Witcher season 3 will be released in two parts this summer Season 3 Volume 1 on Thursday, June 29, and then Season 3 Volume 2 on Thursday, July 27.
While it may seem odd to release it in two chunks, it’s something Netflix has done for years – most notably with the later seasons of Stranger Things. The first five episodes of The Witcher season 3 will be released on June 29, while episodes 6, 7, and 8 will come out on July 27.

The main cast we know and love will return for season 3, including Geralt (Henry Cavill), his beloved bard Jaskier (Joey Batey), sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), head Witcher Vesemir (Kim Bodnia), and Geralt’s adopted daughter/Witcher-in-training Ciri (Freya Allan). Of course, there are secondary characters, like Fringilla (Mimi Ndiweni), who will hopefully return as well.

What is this Witcher of which you speak? The Witcher is a massively popular Netflix fantasy series about Geralt of Rivia, part of a group of magically enhanced monster hunters-for-hire known as ‘Witchers.’ Based on a popular book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, which has been previously turned into an also ridiculously popular video game series, Witcher follows Geralt, the love of his life sorceress Yennefer of Vengeberg and the girl who will become his daughter and destiny, Princess Ciri as they navigate an ever-more sprawling landscape of warring nations, races, magic users, monsters (and maybe universes?).
The Witcher Season 3: Reviews
According to Netflix’s own description of the season to come, “Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.” It will allow the opportunity for Yennefer to train Ciri in the use of her powers (as glimpsed in the recent trailer) and for their bond to be properly forged. As Allan recently explained, “People don’t always make the right choices. But ultimately, I think everyone knows [Yen]’s good at the core. They have such similarities that I think Ciri can’t help but latch onto Yennefer … Also, through Yennefer teaching Ciri, they do begin to build that trust up.”
