A souvenir medal from the 27th National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) held in Indianapolis in 1893. The G.A.R. was a fraternal organization for Union veterans of the Civil War. The encampment was a five-day event that included official meetings, business, parades, reunions, dances, and fireworks. At the time, it was one of the largest events the city of Indianapolis had ever hosted. The medal is made of brass and features the words "Souvenir," "27. National Encampment 1893," and "Indianapolis". The central design includes the initials "G.A.R." surrounded by various symbols. It is a historical item related to Civil War veterans.
