Listing details

General Electric introduced this wonderful design based on the shape of space satellites at that time. It is an AM radio that still works (see the video). The central "satellite" is mounted on a chrome frame so that the orb can rotate freely. The base can be used on a flat horizontal surface, such as a table, or can be mounted on a vertical surface. Either way, the sphere is weighted so that the integrated speaker points upward. Nice! The plastic enclosure is in great condition. Bright orange! No obvious crazing, cracks, etc. The chrome still shines, providing a distinct reflection. There is very light surface "pitting" on the chrome surfaces of the base. There is a battery compartment that takes a 9 volt battery (not included). No corrosion is evident on the battery connector or in the compartment. The battery compartment cover is in great condition and opens/closes well.On/off and volume adjustment is achieved by rotating the bottom of the sphere. Rotating the top allows channel selection. The channel number marks are undamaged and are clearly legible. There is static when the radio is switched on and while changing stations. Once a strong station is tuned in, the static dissipates.Email with any questions.
