Took me a while to figure out exactly what this was used for. I was able to find 2 identical to this one on WorthPoint. According to those listings, this is an 1880-ish made horseradish grinder/maker.The box is made of wood. The arched cover is brass with a VERY beautiful patina. The gears and flywheel are cast iron. The grinding wheel is a dense wood covered with some kind of metal with teeth of sorts.I did not paint the cast iron although it appears those parts MAY have been painted at some point in it's life. I oiled the gears about 3 months ago and much to my amazement it feels like brand new when you crank it! Overall this is an AMAZING piece that would be right at home on a bar or counter top in just about any throwback setting. I can imagine how spectacular it would look in an upscale oyster bar! This one is truly incredible in person!Base - 14" x 8"Height - 14"Width at widest point - 10"Cover on arch - 6" wideWeight - 19 poundsIf you have any questions that I can answer please don't hesitate to ask! Thanks!
