DESCRIPTION Beautiful original oil on canvas landscape signed lower right "E. MONCAYO" for Guatemalan artist Emilio Moncayo (1895-1970). Indigenous village scene with thatched roof huts before towering snow-covered mountains in the background. Emilio Moncayo was born in Quito, Ecuador, to Abelardo Moncayo (minister to then-President Eloy Alfaro) and Margarita Moncayo. He painted many portraits, particularly of government officials. But he is best known for his mountainous country landscapes. His works are held by the Museo Aurelio Espinosa Polit in Quito, and by various other museums and private collections around the world. CONDITION Overall excellent. Very light craquelure throughout. Some tiny paint flakes in the mountain area and the upper left quadrant (all visible in the images).
